This test measures the force per unit width, which is required to separate a flexible substrate (fabric, fiber, wire, or sheet metal) from a rubber layer. A tensile force is applied to tear the bonded surface in order to calculate the adhesion strength. Once this has been established, a minimum separation force value can be ascertained for continued monitoring to assure this state is maintained.
The adhesion required will vary from product to product due to different rubber formulations, product types, and substrate flexibility. This standard covers three specimen types; 180° peel, 90° peel, and ring specimens.
