Summary

This test method measures the following flexural properties of the specimen materials.

  • Flexural Stress
    • Flexural Stress for Beams Tested at Large Support Spans
    • Flexural Strength
    • Flexural Offset Yield Strength
    • Flexural Stress at Break
    • Stress at a Given Strain
    • Flexural Strain
  • Modulus of Elasticity:
    • Tangent Modulus of Elasticity
    • Secant Modulus
    • Chord Modulus

These methods utilize a three-point loading system to apply a load to a simply supported specimen. The method is applicable to rigid and semi-rigid materials. Deflection is measured using either crosshead position.

Types of products / materials generally tested in our laboratory under this method:

  • Unreinforced and reinforced plastics
    • Includes high modulus composites and electrical insulating materials
  • Quality control
  • Specification development/refinement

*Please Note: The information outlined above is to be used as reference for ASTM D790 Standard Test Methods for Flexural Properties of Unreinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials. Please refer to the ASTM International website for full details.
