Summary

This standard is intended to define the basic operation procedures for a xenon arc test chamber which is used to simulate the weathering effects of sunlight, moisture and heat.

Test Details

Xenon Arc exposure is intended to induce property changes of materials when exposed to certain weathering conditions including exposure to: direct (and indirect) sunlight, rain and moisture. The use of a control specimen is recommended for comparison when evaluating property changes in a material. While the standard describes the procedures for obtaining, measuring and controlling conditions of exposure, it does not specify the ideal exposure conditions for the material to be tested. The following standards can be used as additional resources for Xenon Arc testing:

  • ASTM G151
  • ASTM G26

Types of products / materials generally tested in our laboratory:

  • Films / laminates
  • Textiles for outdoor use
  • Roofing materials
  • Interior / exterior materials used in automotive applications

*Please Note: The information outlined above is to be used as reference ASTM G155 Standard Practice for Operation Xenon Arc Light Apparatus for Exposure of Non-Metallic Materials. Please refer to the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) for full details and the most current revision.
