Depending on the end-use of the product, the testing process for food contact materials varies.
Six simulants are used, designed to replicate different types of food. Once the relevant simulants have been chosen, the testing conditions should be selected.
There are seven different overall migration limit test conditions, as outlined in our quick infographic document which you can download below.
Products which will be used on multiple occasions (such as reusable plastic storage boxes) undergo testing three times with fresh simulants. The results of the third test determines whether the product complies with regulatory needs.
