James is Operations Director for Smithers’ Distribution Testing and Packaging and Materials Testing services, bringing over 25 years’ technical experience in packaging testing and evaluation to his leadership of these operations.
His expertise spans packaging materials and processes, logistics and supply chains. Having managed projects across Europe, Asia and Latin America, he has extensive knowledge of test methods, shipment hazards and real-world distribution conditions across international markets.
James has worked across sectors including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, industrial components and electronics, with project experience spanning damage reduction, packaging design and cost avoidance.
His background also includes four years specialising in dangerous goods packaging. He has extensive experience translating packaging, damage, logistics and supply chain challenges into laboratory test programmes designed to investigate and address real-world transit problems.
Qualifications and Professional Accreditation
James holds a degree in Materials and Mathematics and is an International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP) Technologist.
