Mass Spectrometry, distinguishing between structural isomers of phthalate esters

Mass Spectrometry, distinguishing between structural isomers of phthalate esters

Phthalate esters are widely used in polymers as plasticisers, however, because of their potential to act as endocrine disruptors, their usage has to be carefully managed. Smithers expert, Ewan Pickard, brings us this technical poster covering an experiment performed on Orthophthalate and Isophthalate esters in polymers. The experiment compared both Ortho and Iso types, due to the European Chemicals Agency deeming certain esters of orthophthalic acid to be a substance of very high concern (SVHC). The poster further displays:
  1. How Iso and Ortho types are distinguished
  2. Methods used in the experiement
  3. Findings of the experiment.
