Sean McLaughlin

As Research Director, Sean McLaughlin serves as a Group Lead for the Environmental Fate & Metabolism Department and functions as a Study Director on select projects. Sean has 30 years of experience with Smithers, with expertise in biodegradation, photolysis, and other environmental fate and metabolism studies. He earned a BS in Biology from Southeastern Massachusetts University and an MS in Environmental Studies from University of Massachusetts Lowell, and has worked in the industries of water testing and health and beauty products. Over the years, he has made environmental fate presentations at ACS, SETAC NA, and SETAC Europe, is a member of both ACS and SETAC, and served on safety-related committees, including radiation safety. When not engaged in the sciences, Sean enjoys the outdoor activities of distance running, canoeing, gardening, and birdwatching.
